A Newspaper for Europe
—
A project with the European Cultural Foundation
—
With the increased unification of Europe, the European Cultural Foundation requested a proposal for a newspaper that would be appropriate and beneficial to the continent of Europe, both in terms of its concept and grid. My paper arose out of a desire to challenge the unequal power balance present within Europe, and to understand the continent in a wider sense. The title of the newspaper ‘Europe A–V’ refers to the complete list of 52 European countries, starting with Albania and ending with the Vatican. I attempted to create a truely representative paper of each European country, with no nation state having more space than the next.
The true test lies in the possibility of the mass medium of a newspaper to transcend the existing power dynamics within Europe, ultimately creating a more level playing field.
