Type Specimens

Autonomous work

Experiments in hand drawn type. The first are a series of folders which explore various categories of type (Old Style Serif, Trans-itional Serif, Venetian Serif). The left hand side of the folder gives examples of digital type which fall under the particular category. The right hand side present letters as scientific specimens, and are hand drawn to accent the comparison with scientific illustration.

The second, a ruled notebook, experiments with different ways of drawing type. Each page takes a quote from a childhood diary entry, and plays it out using a specific typeface. The details of the typeface are routinely overprinted on top of the drawings to bring together the specimens into an archive. This was an experiment to bring the, now, digital medium of typography back to the form of handwriting.
